Bruce Schmiechen of Titanic Sails At Dawn reposts something I posted to a group discussion on The Atlantic, but adds a twist. Soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, I noted, will see a delay in their pay if the government shuts down, but Schmiechen notes that
Senate Democrats have passed a bill to impose “shared sacrifice,” denying Congress and the President pay if there is a shutdown, but so far the GOP-majority House are deferring to their preferred notion of “trickle-down sacrifice” and will keep their own money coming.
So, just to be clear, the 261 millionaires in Congress will continue receiving their pay during this pointless act of political theater, but some PFC in Iraq with a wife and two kids at home will have to wait for his. Great.
