actual liberty not that popular with pandering Republican frontrunners

I swear to God, if the Republicans could get it together to nominate Gary Johnson, they could steal half the left.

But they won’t. Four more years! Four more years!

    He’s obviously a fucking communist!

You’re right that he could probably steal half the left if he were the nominee, but I can’t help pointing out in response to Johnson’s States’ Rights jab that he’s defining Abraham Lincoln and the Warren court as being un-American, just off the top of my head.

There’s obviously a lot of overlap between libertarians and liberals when it comes to civil liberties, but it’s not really where the rubber hits the road, if you know what I mean.

Well, having looked over his website, I think he’s probably saying that Congress shouldn’t be overruling the states on things like gay marriage and marijuana legalization. I don’t think he’s looking to bring back either nullification or secession. And nothing in what he’s saying so far indicates that he’s taken the Rand Paul position that we don’t need the Civil Rights Act.

You’re right, though — there are key differences between libertarian and liberal positions, and in a real race I’d probably still vote for Obama. But this is only another way of saying health care reform and keeping Social Security viable are more important to me than the fate of detainees at Guantanamo, our standing in the international community, or the millions of people caught up in the War On Drugs. Which, now that I think about it, saddens me a bit.
